TECAR
Therapy.
Radiofrequency Energy Transfer · Deep Tissue Regeneration · Only Provider, Western Suburbs
TECAR (Transfer of Capacitive and Resistive Energy) is a high-frequency radiofrequency therapy that generates deep endogenous heat within target tissues — accelerating cellular metabolism, reducing inflammation, and restoring mobility without surgery, medication, or downtime.
Adisi Health Center is the only Winback TECAR provider in the western Chicago suburbs. Dr. Petzel applies TECAR as a standalone therapy and in synergy with Shockwave, Class IV Laser, and EMTT — creating a multi-modal protocol that addresses the full biology of injury and recovery.
What Is
TECAR
Therapy?
TECAR stands for Transfer of Capacitive and Resistive Energy — a radiofrequency-based therapy that uses high-frequency electrical fields to generate deep endogenous heat within biological tissues. Unlike surface-level heat therapy, TECAR creates thermal energy from within the tissue itself, targeting the exact structures that need treatment.
"TECAR doesn't apply heat to the outside of the body — it creates heat from inside the tissue. That distinction is the reason it reaches depths and produces biological responses that no surface modality can replicate."
The Winback TECAR system operates in two modes — capacitive and resistive — which target different tissue types and depths. Capacitive mode targets superficial tissues including skin, fascia, and fluid-rich structures. Resistive mode penetrates deeper into dense tissues such as bone, tendons, and joint capsules.
This dual-mode approach allows Dr. Petzel to address the full spectrum of a musculoskeletal injury in a single session — treating the superficial fascial environment and the deep structural tissue simultaneously, or in sequence, based on the clinical presentation.
TECAR has been extensively adopted in European elite sports medicine and post-surgical rehabilitation. It is now available exclusively at Adisi Health Center in the western suburbs, applied by Dr. Petzel as part of a broader multi-modal protocol or as a standalone therapy for soft tissue, fascial, and recovery applications.
Capacitive vs. Resistive Energy
Treatment
Capacitive mode uses a non-insulated electrode to target water-rich, electrically conductive tissues close to the surface. The radiofrequency current flows through the soft tissue layer, generating heat within the fascia, subcutaneous tissue, and muscular envelope. This mode is ideal for stimulating circulation, reducing edema, and improving fascial mobility.
Treatment
Resistive mode uses an insulated electrode that focuses the radiofrequency current on poorly conductive, high-resistance tissues — tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and joint capsules. Because these tissues resist the current, they generate more heat, allowing TECAR to reach and therapeutically stimulate the deep structural components of a joint or injury site.
Conditions Treated with TECAR
Muscle strains, ligament sprains, hamstring tears, and overuse injuries respond rapidly to TECAR's deep tissue heating. Accelerated metabolic activity within the injury site reduces healing time and restores functional range of motion faster than passive rest or surface-level modalities.
Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, rotator cuff pathology, and patellar tendinopathy benefit from TECAR's resistive mode, which delivers deep heat to the tendon structure itself — stimulating collagen remodeling and reducing the chronic degenerative environment that perpetuates tendon pain.
Knee, hip, shoulder, and spinal joint degeneration responds to TECAR's ability to penetrate the joint capsule and periarticular structures. Deep resistive heating improves synovial fluid viscosity, reduces periarticular stiffness, and supports the metabolic environment of cartilage tissue.
After orthopedic procedures including joint replacement, ligament reconstruction, and spinal surgery, TECAR addresses the scar tissue formation, fascial adhesion, and disrupted tissue metabolism that standard rehabilitation often leaves unresolved. Both modes are applied strategically to remodel fibrotic tissue and restore mobility.
Lumbar and cervical fascial restriction, paraspinal muscle dysfunction, and chronic segmental stiffness respond well to TECAR's capacitive mode applied to the thoracolumbar fascia and deep cervical musculature. The thermal effect drives circulation, reduces guarding, and restores tissue extensibility that chronic pain patterns progressively inhibit.
Capacitive TECAR stimulates lymphatic flow and drives interstitial fluid mobilization in post-injury and post-surgical edema. The effect on circulation and fluid dynamics accelerates the resolution of swelling that would otherwise prolong the acute phase of recovery and delay the return of functional movement.
What to Expect
During Treatment.
TECAR therapy sessions at Adisi are fully customized to your condition, tissue presentation, and treatment goals. Dr. Petzel selects the appropriate mode, electrode, and parameter set for each treatment area — there is no standard template.
Most patients describe the sensation as a comfortable, penetrating warmth that builds gradually as the tissue responds. There is no discomfort, no recovery period, and no restriction on activity afterward. Sessions typically run 12–20 minutes depending on the area treated and the protocol in use.
The Clinical Advantages.
TECAR generates heat from within the tissue — not from an external source. This means the therapeutic temperature is reached at the target structure itself, not dissipated across the surface. The result is effective treatment at depths that surface heat modalities simply cannot reach.
The thermal effect of TECAR increases metabolic activity within the treated tissue — driving oxygen delivery, nutrient uptake, and waste removal at the cellular level. This creates the biological conditions for faster, more complete recovery than passive rest or manual therapy alone.
Chronic pain and overuse injury progressively restrict fascial extensibility — creating mechanical tethering that limits movement and perpetuates the injury cycle. TECAR's capacitive mode directly addresses this by restoring the glide planes between fascial layers that guarding and scar tissue formation have compromised.
Unlike shockwave therapy, which may produce 24–48 hours of post-treatment soreness, TECAR sessions require no recovery period. Patients return to training, work, or daily activity immediately — making it particularly suitable for active patients managing in-season injuries or high training loads.
Scar tissue and fascial adhesion are among the most persistent barriers to full post-surgical recovery. TECAR's resistive mode delivers the thermal stimulus needed to remodel fibrotic collagen — improving tissue compliance, reducing adhesion-related restriction, and restoring the mobility that the original surgery was intended to produce.
Winback TECAR is widely adopted across European professional sports — football, cycling, rugby, and athletics — where rapid recovery between competitive events is a clinical requirement. The same technology and protocols that serve elite athletes are applied at Adisi Health Center for every patient, regardless of activity level.
TECAR Works Best
in Combination.
TECAR is one of four advanced modalities at Adisi Health Center. While it produces meaningful results as a standalone therapy, its clinical impact is amplified when combined with Shockwave, Class IV Laser, and EMTT — each of which targets a different biological mechanism of injury and recovery.
Dr. Petzel combines these therapies in strategic sequence within a single session or across a protocol — addressing the acoustic, electromagnetic, photonic, and thermal dimensions of tissue repair that no single modality can cover alone. This is what distinguishes Adisi from clinics offering a single technology.
