What Is Tennis Elbow?
Tennis elbow — clinically known as lateral epicondylitis — is a repetitive strain injury caused by overuse of the forearm extensors, resulting in microtears and progressive degeneration at the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. Despite the name, most sufferers never play tennis.
Without proper treatment, the tendon fails to fully heal, leading to chronic pain, grip weakness, and functional limitation that can persist for months or years.
Who It Affects
Recognizing Symptoms
Signs You May
Have Tennis Elbow
- Pain or burning on the outer part of the elbow, often radiating into the forearm
- Weak grip strength — difficulty holding a coffee cup, shaking hands, or turning a doorknob
- Pain that worsens with repetitive wrist and forearm movements such as lifting, twisting, or typing
- Stiffness and tenderness directly at the lateral epicondyle
- Symptoms that have persisted for more than 6 weeks despite rest or ice
State-of-the-Art Therapies
Advanced Tennis Elbow
Treatments at Adisi Health
We go beyond cortisone injections and rest. Our multi-modality protocol targets the underlying tendon pathology to stimulate true biological repair — not just temporary pain relief.
Shockwave Therapy
(ESWT)
High-energy acoustic waves penetrate the lateral epicondyle to break down calcifications, stimulate collagen production, and restart the healing response in chronically degenerated tendon tissue.
- FDA-cleared for chronic tendinopathy
- Dual Radial + Focused delivery for surface and deep tissue
- Stimulates neovascularization and collagen remodeling
- Proven effective in patients who've failed other treatments
Best for: Chronic pain, calcific deposits, scar tissue
Winback TECAR
Therapy
TECAR (Transfer of Capacitive and Resistive Energy) delivers targeted radiofrequency energy deep into the elbow's soft tissues, accelerating the body's own cellular repair mechanisms.
- Reduces inflammation and edema in just a few sessions
- Increases deep tissue oxygenation and metabolic activity
- Drug-free pain relief with zero downtime
- Comfortable, hands-on treatment experience
Best for: Acute flare-ups, inflammation, early-stage recovery
EMTT — Extracorporeal
Magnetotransduction
The Storz Magnetolith delivers ultra-high magnetic field pulses to stimulate cellular metabolism at the tendon attachment site — uniquely powerful for chronic cases that haven't responded to other therapies.
- Activates tenocyte regeneration and mitochondrial function
- Reduces pain and inflammation at the cellular level
- Completely non-invasive with no discomfort
- Synergistic with Shockwave in the same protocol
Best for: Chronic, treatment-resistant cases
LightForce Class IV
Laser Therapy (40W)
Our LightForce XLi 40-watt laser delivers concentrated photonic energy directly to the injured tendon, increasing ATP production and accelerating tissue repair while providing immediate analgesic effects.
- Effective for both acute and chronic presentations
- Improves grip strength and forearm range of motion
- Quick, comfortable 6–10 minute treatment sessions
- Safe with no thermal damage at therapeutic dosages
Best for: Pain relief, mobility restoration, combined protocols
Our Tennis Elbow Protocol
A structured 6-session Shockwave series — combined with EMTT, Laser, and TECAR as clinically indicated — designed to deliver measurable improvement in pain, grip strength, and function.

Personalized, Evidence-Based Care
Every treatment plan is built around your specific presentation — tissue quality, chronicity, and activity goals — not a generic protocol pulled off a shelf.
No Surgery. No Injections. No Downtime.
Our therapies are entirely non-invasive and drug-free. Patients typically return to normal daily activities immediately following each session.
Proven Results for Chronic Cases
Many of our tennis elbow patients arrive having already tried cortisone injections, bracing, and physical therapy. Our advanced protocol addresses what those treatments miss.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked
Questions
How many sessions will I need for tennis elbow?
Most patients complete a 6-session Shockwave protocol. Additional EMTT, Laser, or TECAR sessions are added based on your tissue response and chronicity. A progress reassessment is performed after the initial series to determine next steps.
Is Shockwave Therapy painful?
Most patients describe a deep pressure sensation or mild discomfort during treatment, particularly over the most inflamed area. The intensity is always calibrated to your tolerance and decreases significantly as the tendon heals across the protocol.
Do I need to rest after treatment?
You can return to normal daily activities immediately. We recommend avoiding heavy forearm loading (e.g., heavy lifting or racquet sports) for 24–48 hours post-Shockwave to allow the tissue response to settle.
I've already tried cortisone injections. Can you still help?
Yes. In fact, many of our most successful tennis elbow cases arrive having failed steroid injections, bracing, and standard physical therapy. Our therapies stimulate the biological repair process — something injections do not address.
Is treatment covered by insurance?
Shockwave, EMTT, Laser, and TECAR therapies are advanced modalities billed as cash-pay services. We are in-network with BCBS PPO for chiropractic evaluation and management. We'll review your specific situation at your new patient visit.
